本文以歷史回顧的方式，歸納並呈現出邊緣型人格障礙症，此外並勾勒出未來研究展望。本文基於生物-心理-社會模式，以文獻回顧的方式，就邊緣型人格障礙症的臨床診斷的演化、危險因子之流行病學理論、病程與預後、治療與成果、以及針對現階段研究之評論，作一簡論述。根據體質一壓力模式，只有在適當的生物、心理、與社會危險因子交互作用下，才能解釋邊緣型人格障礙症的形成原因。衝動而情緒不穩定的人格特質、童年創傷經驗、以及環境壓力似乎僅是造成邊緣型人格障礙症之必要但非充分條件。臺灣亟需的是一套跨文化、具可靠信效度的診斷工具，以進行後續相關研究。生物-心理-社會（以及文化）模式對於邊緣型人格障礙症的致病因子研究，以及發展一套特定的、本土的、而且有效的治療模式極具啟發性。

　　　　　This paper summarizes and presents a historical review of borderline personality disorder (BPD) and touches on future perspectives. Using a biopsychosocial model, empirical findings obtained in the literature were systematically reviewed. The evolution of clinical diagnosis, epidemiological theories of risk factors, course and prognosis, treatment and outcome, as well as a critique of the current status of relevant studies are presented. In terms of a predisposition-stress model, it is probable that only a combination of interacting biological, psychological, and social risk factors can account for the etiology of BPD. Personality traits characterized by impulsivity and affective instability, traumatic experiences in childhood, and environmental stressors seem to be necessary, but not sufficient, conditions for BPD. A cross-culturally valid and sensitive diagnostic instrument is needed in Taiwan for preparation of further research. A biopsychosocial (and cultural) model of BPD may benefit further research into its etiology as well as the development of specific, culturally appropriate, and effective treatment methods.
