許多運動員及教練都深怕不適當的減量訓練會造成競技狀態及運動表現的下降。但是有許多研究指出,適當的增量訓練對運動員都能有正面的影響,由其是在肌力方面。有研究指出,耐力選手在週訓練量減少70%~80%,為期10~28天的減量訓練後對最大運動能力並沒有影響。更有許多的減量訓練研究指出 ,耐力選手可以試著在賽前的一段時間進行賽前減量訓練,因為合適的賽前減量可以改善運動表及身心的超補償作用,甚至可以避免過度訓練、受傷及疲憊。
