The aim of this paper is to examine the creative performance of Chinese calligraphy by adapting the Reccent Western theories in Creativity. It starts with the introduction of four approaches in researching the subject of creativity, among which three approaches are applied to compare the essence of Chinese calligraphy, including the approaches in examining the creative product, the process and the person. Finally, A whole-picture of Chinese calligraphy in researching creativity is presented for further exploration. It is suggested that Chinese calligraphy as a cultural rooted materials can be applied to foster creativity.
