秦觀，原字太虛，改字少游，號淮海居士，生於朱仁宗皇佑元年，卒於宋哲宗 元符三年，為北宋後期婉約派傑出詞人。 　黃昏意象是秦觀詞重要的藝術表現，所謂「黃昏意象」，是以夕陽、落日為中心意象， 並匯聚其他物象而組成的意象群。秦觀詞中黃昏意象的情感指歸是黃昏閨怨、日暮送別、斜 陽羈旅、日暮途遠，偏向「暝色起愁」，而缺乏黃昏回歸的圓滿心境。 　從格式塔心理學派的「異質同構」之說，黃昏意象正是秦觀感傷生命情調的顯現。秦觀 生命本質敏感纖細，仕途蹇困使他遇挫則摧，以詞「自寫傷心」，以黃昏意象顯現黯淡悲抑 之情、人生遲幕之感。王國維《人間詞話》：「少游詞境最淒婉，至「可堪孤館閉春寒，杜 鵑聲裡斜陽暮」，則變為淒厲矣。」從黃昏意象的使用，也可以看出他的詞風從柔婉到淒婉 、淒厲的變化軌跡。
