Does Chinese Logic share the “universality” of Western Logic? Ordoes it have a completely different system? This paper is to discuss the question from three different angles-the formalization of Chinese thoughts, the idea of “categories” and the issue of condition-in wishes to bring in a new approach. First, by means of Von Wright's analysis of “from” and “content” in his article “Form and Content in Logic,” we will discuss whether the rule implied in “Shiao Qu” has a universal form. Besides, we will propose “partialness” as the major feature of the idea of “categories.” Finally, we will bring in three principles of choosing conditions in order to resolve the conflict between the practical interests and the spiritual justice.
