After the Taipei City Archives was established it placed a great deal of emphasis on the collection of old photographs. Through the interest of employees, from pictures of old books, the suggestions of interviewees, the donations of eager individuals and the holding of specialized exhibits, a large collection has been gathered. The recent government purchase law as well as the buying and selling practices of private collectors have resulted in various restrictions on collecting. The historical data contained in old photographs should be available for scholars and library staff members to examine and arrange so that they may provide useful, concrete information to more people.
