This study focuses on the comparison of the rules announced by FIG (Federation of International Gymastics) in 1997 and 2001 their impact upon the technical development of the floor exercises. In addition, this study provides detailed analysis using different examples of the various sets of movements during major competitions in those two years and the influences of theses changes upon the development of the floor exercises. This study is aimed to illustrate the importance of the Federation rules upon the future development trend of the floor exercises and to encourage young athletes to achieve the standard of excellency during practice and competition in the future.
