有鑒於國內的相關規範（標準）對圖書館中館員辦公工作空間大小的計算方式與實際的狀況差異大，本研究對國內六所大學圖書館館員辦公的工作空間進行研究。研究的方式是將各組館員對其工作空間大小的反應與實際使用面積作一對比，而得到館員對較「適中」的「個人單元工作面積」和「整組中每人平均工作面積」的判斷值。藉著「個人單元工作面積」與「整組中每人平均工作面積」相除，得到一組「共用面積比」。他反映出各組館原因工作性質上的差異，對其整組的共用工作空間有不同的需求。由此而顯示出兩個重要的意義；第一，不同工作性質的館員對其辦公工作空間的大小有不同的需求，第二，在估算館員的辦公工作空間時，不應以「個人單元工作面積」為依歸，而應以「整組中每人平均工作面積」為計算的根本。此一結果，說明了在現有規範中出現一些認知上的誤失。研究結果亦提出了一些數據資料供大學圖書館作相關空間的檢示之用。

It is a noted rule that the working area (office) of librarians is estimated by the "unit area of a person" which ignored the different needs and characteristics of each section of librarians. Based on a survey to the librarians of six universities to evaluate the size of their working area, researchers found a set of ratios of "co-working area" between the "average area of total office of a person" and the "unit area of a person" in each section of library. It revealed two facts that the obvious difference between each section in its need in space, and the actual size of the office area should be estimated based on the amount of "average area of total office of a person." The results of this research offered some reference data for librarian to check their office size suitably.
