Ou-yang Siou, a distinguished litterateur of Northern Song Dynasty, played an important role on Chinese literature history, because he had successfully led the ancient style prose movement and had earnestly written many outstanding works. From these works, Ou-yang Siou’s image of solemeity and justice could be noticed obviously, but some works in his lyrics revealed a extremely euphemistical and affectional style which was enormously different from the style of his poetic and prosaic works. Some scholars of former times claimed that these lyrics were fabricated by mean literators to harm Ou-yang’s reputation; in spite of whether so, these lyrics did irrefragably reflect Ou-yang Siou’s practical image. To compare with other lyricists beforehand, no matter in the connotation of lyrics as well as in writing lyrics skill, he had made a gigantic progress. Besides these lyrics were considered fabrications; the style of his lyrics at every stage was different. These works with profound meaning had quite tremendous influence on the afterwards lyricists; thus, Ou-yang Siou was thought by the past people to be one who set a new course in Chinese literature while inheriting from the past simultaneously. Accordingly, I hope by means of this study on Ou-yang Siou’s lyrics approach to understand his lyrics style at every stage, and to establish his monumental status in lyrics literature history.
