When performing the environmental impact assessment during the planning period of the MRT routes, DORTS was very serious about the preservation and protection of historic relics along its routes. According to the regulations stipulated in the construction contract, the contractor should suspend construction work and follow instructions given by the authorized government agent if any historic relics were found during construction. As for the aforementioned relocation project, DORTS made every effort to carry it out based on the relevant regulations including the Cultural Heritage Preservation Law and suggestions from archeologists in the hope of combining the plan of the Beimen Station on the Songshan MRT line with the preservation, revitalization and re-utilization of cultural heritage. The said construction not only revitalizes the space but also extends time, linking the past and the future history of the Taiwan railway. Through the MRT construction, the cultural heritage will draw more passengers to visit and appreciate the relic, increasing its utilization value.
