英國學派是在二次戰後結合國際關係之現實主義（realism）與理性建構主義（rationalist constructivism）發展出來的社會學理論，以國家構成的國際社會做為主要分析焦點。英國學派在現實主義的國家主權概念上加入社會建構主義強調之共享社會規範與相互主觀的規則與實踐因素，也重視新自由主義之國際建制在促成國家合作與國家社會化過程中的角色，能夠協助我們理解全球化時代國際關係中存在的權力、利益、價值和規範的複雜關係。
