Claude Achille Debussy (1862-1918) has much significance in Impressionism in the twentieth-century music. His later compositional style, however, returned to absolute music, and designed to write six sonatas. Debussy's unique compositional technique is reflected in his innovation with regarded to melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, and coloristic exploitation, as well as aesthetic approach. The purpose of this study is to approach the traditional music elements within Debussy's compositions. The content of this study presents (1) both Debussy's life and style; (2) traditional music elements within Debussy's compositional techniques; (3) traditional elements within Debussy's aesthetic approach; (4) the recover of French traditional music; (5) the conclusion.
