The purpose of this study was to be aimed at the participants of Taroko Gorge Marathon and to analyze if there are any differences between their planning of traffic, itinerary, accommodation and food and beverage for the event and their planning for general sightseeing. Descriptive analysis, factor analysis and MANOVA were exercised in this study. The results revealed that the demographic data of most participants was male, married, 31-40 years old, in business industry, college graduate, reside in Taipei area, raced in fun run group, stayed for 2 nights. Most participants chose vehile as their transportation from their residence to Taroko. And the majority sightseeing spots they planned to visit were Central Cross-Island Highway, Taroko, Tiansiang, etc. There are significant differences according to different gender, marital status, age, occupation, education background, personal monthly income, residence, race categories, and accommodation days. It is suggested that people interested in marathon event shall collect event announcement or information before the event and do the itinerary planning for sport tourism in an early stage. The race date falls on weekends or holidays will stimulate people's motivation for sightseeing. Travel agency can take this opportunity to promote local tour package combined with sport tourism, improve the development of sport tourism.
