The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Brazil training method on basketball players' basic sports abilities and basketball skills by conducting an eight-week training program. The participants of this study were 15 female basketball players (with average age: 21.22±3.11 years, height: 164.44±5.46 cm, weight: 54.22±3.77 kg) who play for the varsity team of Lan-Yang Institution of Technology in the 2008 season. The basic motor abilities and basketball skills of the participants were tested and recorded both before and after implementing the training program. In this study, paired-smaples t-test was used to compare the differences between the data collected from the two tests. The results showed that: 1. the test methods (medicine ball throw, standing long jump, standing triple jump, run-up vertical jump and reach high, 60 m sprint, and 10 m shuttle run) of female players who experienced an 8-week Brazil training method were significantly better than before (p<.05); 2. the basic basketball skills (5-point rapid shoot, dribbling, passing, and defensive steps) of female players who experienced the training were significantly better than before (p<.05). In conclusion, the basic motor abilities and basketball skills of female players were significantly improved after experiencing an 8-week Brazil training method, indicating that Brazil training method could effectively enhance the performance of basic motor abilities and basketball skills.
