The article collects and analyzes 140 newspaper editorials with discussions about the college entrance examination in Taiwan, dated from 1962 to 2000, in order to understand public perspectives of the examination and how they have affected the development of the examination. These public opinions can be categorized into the following: (1) encouragement for examinees before the exams; (2) expectations of or consolation to examinees after the exams; (3) discussions on exam-related problems; (4) innovations and improvements on exam-related affairs; (5) questions about items or item formulation; (6) issues about registration and placement; (7) new proposals for examinations; (8) discussions abolishment/existence on the joint university/college entrance examinations; (9) issues about current educational system; (10) abolishment of Three Principles of the People. Accordingly, these issues were examined and analyzed.
