The objectives of this study were to investigate the significance recognition of national tennis coaches' professional competency in Taiwan, to probe the characteristic of national tennis coaches in Taiwan, to analyze the differences of the various demographic statistics on professional competency and the professional varieties on professional competency, and to probe the concept of professional competency. The information collected on national tennis coaches' professional competency will be concluded and used for further reference of designing training curriculums for national tennis coaches in Taiwan in the future. The subjects of this study were 62 national tennis coaches which were approved by the tennis association in Taiwan. Interviews were conducted with a questionnaire titled "professional competency of national tennis coaches" Total 62 questionnaires were handed out, and the number of valid replies was 41, after a careful statistics analysis by one-way ANOVA, t test with the software of SPSS 10.0 for windows and Scheffe' method, the final results are as following: 1. The differences of the various demographic statistics on professional competency: All differences of the various demographic statistics on professional competency are significant to the education. 2. The differences of the professional varieties on professional competency: There is no any variety significant to the professional competency. 3. The differences of the factor of various demographic statistics on professional competency: All differences of the various demographic statistics on professional competency are significant to the education. 4. The differences of the various factors on professional competency: There is a few factors of varieties are significant to the professional competency.
