地名註記是地圖的組成要素之一,它可與各類的空間地物屬性相關聯,而註記配置的合理與否將直接影響到地圖上所要表達的資訊,可見其重要性。然在製圖過程中,註記配置所需的時間及經費甚鉅,是一項耗時費力的工作。拜電腦科技發展所賜,傳統的人工製圖已逐步發展為電腦輔助製圖,加以近年來地理資訊系統的發展,數值製圖能力亦大幅提升。目前諸多從事數值製圖及地理資訊系統工作者,深具豐富的地理資訊專業經驗,惟較乏製圖學方面的專業知識,致部份圖文設計配置不適,而降低地圖品質及其資訊傳播功能。本研究所建立之地名註記自動化作業模式,系統性地將地名註記配置原則結合於地理資訊系統中,大幅增加地名註記自動化之程度,進而提升數值製圖之品質與效能。
Toponym placement is one element of the map, it can be associated with the various Geo-spatial features linked to the attributes. Moreover a reasonable distribution of toponym placement will directly affect the information that a map contain. In the processes of mapping, placement is a very time-consuming and laborious work. With the development of computer technology, the traditional manual mapping has been gradually transformed into computer-aided mapping, and with the development of GIS in recent years, digital mapping capacity increased dramatically. Many experts in the digital mapping and geographic information have a lot of professional experience, but are not good at cartographic skills. As a result, many poor design of maps have reduced the information dissemination functions and influenced qualities of mapping. The automatic operation model of toponym placement established in this research would be integrated into GIS with the principle of toponym placement. The results showed that it would upgrade the degree of automatic procedures and the quality of map making.
