孫權之「經略遼東」，並非僅是尋求單純的吳、遼結盟，實與孫吳當時「聯蜀抗魏」的國家戰略相關，目的在於替抗魏聯盟增加更多的助力。因此，研究這一歷史事實，若單由失敗之結果，評論其為孫權的外交失策，抑或是統治晚期愚昧無道行為之展現，恐不足以解釋孫權何以如此堅持推動此事，以及其失敗之因。是故，本文嘗試由從吳、魏、蜀三方戰略形勢、吳國在馬匹問題上的物資需求、孫權個人意志上的統一願景、航海事業開拓等角度切入，以期能對此事提供一較全面性且深入重新理解。

Sun Chuan’s “Pacifying Liaotung” (Liaotung: toponym) is not only simply seeking an alliance between Wu and Liao, but also relating to national strategy of the policy of “Allying Shu to against Wei” determined by Sun Chuan, the purpose of which is to increase more assistance for alliance to fight against Wei. Therefore, it will be insufficient to explain why Sun was so insistent to advance this matter, and to specify the cause of his failure by the historical fact that Sun’s diplomatic inexpediency is the cause of his failure, or his benighted and unmoral behaviors reveals in the late stage of his reign. This article, thus, intends to cut in from angles of the strategic status of Wu, Wei,and Shu (three small nations), the material requirement of Wu’s horse issue,the unified vision of Sun’s personal volition, and the development of navigating career, so as to provide a comprehensive and deep realization about this event.
