The purpose of this study was to explore the developmental trend in rings event based on the advancement of scoring rules. By reviewing the studies, it was found that the major modifications of the rules include extra points for transitional power skills, allowed numbers of power skills in the same location, and allowed numbers of consecutive power skills. With the improvement of skills, the requirement of ending movements also becomes stricter. Besides, the current rules help increase of skill difficulty as well as the objectivity of the judges. To summarize the modifications in the current rules and the trends of skill development, it was found that: (1) Repetition of a same set of skills should be decreased. (2) Numbers of power skills will be limited. (3) The same set of power skills should not be repeated. (4) Power skills should be linked by high-difficulty swing movements. (5) New power skills should be developed. The above are the major focuses of future development.
