Character study is always an important topic in literature research. ”Old people” is a important type within. This thesis, as a start to the research of ”old people” modeling and function in Japanese ancient literature, will be concentrated on the appearance of ”old people” in Kojiki. Through this thesis, we can find kinds of contrast between ”old people” and dignitaries in Kojiki like old with young, weak with strong, humble with privileged, poor with rich, edged with central, dominated with dominating, etc. ”Old people” are modeled as a perfect contrast to the dignitary. Such a portrait of ”old people” is designed to match with the editing guideline of Kojiki, the ruling orthodoxy of Japanese emperor. And the elements of ”old people” in Kojiki, old, weak, humble and poor are usual in tales of abandoning old after medieval, too. From the view of point, the portrait of ”old people” in Kojiki actually forms an archetype of traditional image of ”old people” in Japanese literature.
