This paper considers the effect of 44mm table tennis ball using in the university table tennis classes for students to acquire the skill of backhand push. In this study, the pre-test and post-test groups are designed to be unequal. 2 elementary table tennis classes (within140 students) are chosen to participate in the experiment. Candidates were separated into 70 groups (2 students into one group), then randomly assigned one class to the experimental group and the other to the control group. After the experimentation, 45 effective samples are obtained, including 24 experimental and 21 control groups. In the process, the experimental group adopted the teaching method of 44mm ball, while the control group adopted the traditional teaching method of 40mm ball. However, both of them followed the same procedures of pre-test, experiment, and post-test. The data were examined by the paired samples t-test, and one-way ANOVA. The results indicated that: Students in the 44mm group could gain skill of backhand push more effectively than those in the traditional 40mm ones. The results of this study suggested the method of teaching table tennis through 44mm ball, and a direction for future work in this area, which could be applied for further research.
