Energy is the force that moves civilization. The relentless growth of its use, however, is now affecting the world's climate systems, with grave consequences that threaten mankind's very sustainability. This makes decarbonization the central issue for energy for the foreseeable future, and our task will be nothing less than a complete makeover of the world's entire energy system. Taiwan is a small island state with limited land and a substantial reliance on industry for its economic wellbeing. That makes energy and decarbonization greater challenges to manage than most other countries. Whether it's for Taiwan or for the world as a whole, the answers we seek are to be found in the execution aspects of how we tackle these difficult tasks. Only thus will we be able to find the ways and set ourselves in motion toward the goals we must reach.
