Currently, Macao is experiencing moderate economic diversification transformation, which has promoted changes in political appeal and election environment. This article will firstly analyze the data and information collected regarding the economic development of Macao since the liberalization of the gambling industry. Although vertical diversification of gambling and tourism industries is speeding up, the fast developing gambling industry resulted in a dominance of economic growth, which has aggravated the uneven distribution of social wealth. Hence, there are emerging political appeals of improving citizens’ living standards, strengthening government supervision, as well as improving the political participation of civil groups and citizens. The election environment has also been changed by the shifting political appeals. Phenomena like accelerating resource competition between interest groups in the gambling industry and increasing preference of democratic supervision is emerging in the election of the legislative council. Lastly, there will be a few suggestions on the restructuring of the political system in Macao.
