It can be inferred that the formation of the Mazu belief in Macau started in 1452-1458. A-Ma Temple (媽 閣廟) of Macau has been repeatedly restored or extended as in 1605, 1629, 1751, 1828, 1829, 1885-87,1988. In fact, there are 8 temples worshiping Mazu in Macau area. Besides A-Ma Temple in the south part of the peninsula, there are also Lin Fung Temple (蓮峰廟), Hong Kung Chan Kuan Temple (望廈康真君廟), Kun Iam Temple (望廈 普濟禪院), Ancient Temple of Tin Hau at Rua dos Pescadores (漁翁街馬交石天后古廟), Kwan Tai Tin Hau Temple in Cheoc Ka Village (氹仔島卓家村關帝天后古廟), and the Ancient Temple of Tin Hau in Coloane (路環島天后 宮). It is believed that the circle of Mazu belief came into being in the Macau area between the Kangxi and Qianlong periods during the Qing Dynasty. The spatial expansion of Mazu belief in Macau actually corresponded with the expansion of the living districts of local Chinese people.
