Icons have already become the main way for users to understand and interact with the software. However, if the animated effects are added into the icons, it would be a great display for expressing the status of the apps. The goal of this research is to conclude and organize the basis for designing the animated effects of icons, and simultaneously, to build the connection between the designed animated icons as well as the common software implementing status. According to some researches related to Kineticons and Empatheticons, this study concludes nine resources of the animations, including living creatures' exercises, gestures and postures, organs and tissues' motions, machines' movements, physical and natural effects, cartoon actions, emotions, the features of the icons and the attached elements, etc. Totally 57 animated icons are designed on these foundations. After the Delphi technique and the preliminary tests, 30 animated icons were selected. It is expected that the animated icons created in this study would provide the designers a reference of how icons reflect the statuses of the apps.
