|The acquisition of Japanese plosive consonants is difficult for Mandarin speakers. To find out how Taiwanese learners of Japanese perceive plosive consonants with the voicing contrast, a perception experiment was carried out. 80 Taiwanese learners were grouped according to their proficiency level of Japanese by JLPT. They were requested to listen to the stimuli and judge whether they recognized the sounds as voiced plosive consonants or voiceless plosive consonants. The results are summarized to perceive the differences between voiced plosive and voiceless plosive into the following five points: 1) The position of plosive in words was the most important factor. 2) Different kinds of plosive consonants had no significant influence on the recognition. 3) N3 level of language proficiency was a boundary in one plosive syllable. However, there was no significant difference between the different proficiency levels in two plosive syllables. 4) Differences among the numbers of plosive consonants did not significantly affect the recognition. 5) There were a certain perception error patterns among the learners
