'The story about two countries' war' is collected in Section Cathay by "Konjyaku Monogatarisyu" Volume 10 issue 31. The origination is unknown, and there are no works related to this article that have similar characters or plots in this Volume. Former studies have proved that would be originated from India. However, the historical allusion of being meat on somebody's chopping block, Confucius and Dao Zhi were mentioned, give the elements of Cathy atmosphere in this alien style work. In addition, the scene of ink line at the neck of the bottle in this work was associated with 'The Shishigatani incident' of "The Tale of the Heike", which the similar pronunciation of Hei-shi and heiji (bottle). In the history of "Konjyaku Monogatarisyu"'s research, the number of studies on the subject of issue 31 is limited, the conjecture would be the origination of this work is unknown. Minakata Kumagusu, who is a biologist got high interest in "Konjyaku Monogatarisyu", and his notes have opened a new direction for reading and research of this work. This study focuses on issue 31, taking the notes left by Minakata Kumagusu as an entry point, trying a new way of reading different from the past。|『今昔物語集』巻十震旦付国史に収録される「二国互挑合戦語第三十一」は、出典が不明で、巻十に関わりのある資料でも類話すら見当たらない。先行研究によると、天竺種のものだと指摘されてはいるが、異国的な雰囲気が漂う一方、「俎上の魚」ということわざ、そして孔子や盗跖の名など、震旦を連想させる要素も織り込まれている。また、瓶子の頸に墨を引くシーンは、『平家物語』の「鹿ヶ谷の陰謀」における「平氏」が「瓶子」とかかっている趣を連想させる。出典が定められないためか、第三十一話に焦点を絞る論考は少ない。だが、その中で『今昔』に髙い関心を寄せた生物学者南方熊楠の書き込みは、この作品に対する吟味や解明するのに、新しい視野を切り開いてくれる。本稿は「二国互挑合戦語第三十一」に焦点を当て、南方熊楠の書き込みを糸口として、新たな読みを試みるものである
