This research integrated patent design around techniques, component minimization approaches, and design methods to suggest a systematic design process, Patentization Design Process (PDP). The PDP could not only reach the purpose of product innovation but also obtain a patent for enterprise. The main steps of PDP are: (1) searching and reviewing related patents systematically; (2) analyzing target patents; (3) applying ”eliminate” and/or ”substitute” and/or ”substantial change” as main techniques for design around in order to suggest a basic core concept; (4) adopting ”SCAMPER” as the design method to generate diversities for the basic concept; (5) minimizing and changing component factors to induce advanced core concepts; (6) adopting ”SCAMPER” as the design method again to propose patent portfolios for the advanced core concepts; (7) processing detail design, engineering design, prototyping, and testing; (8) employing infringement assessment, documentation writing, and patent applications. Besides, a specific theme, Easel Binder, was employed as a demonstration. A serial of innovation concepts were developed successfully, and one of the concepts awarded 2005 National Invention and Creation Silver medal of ROC. The applicability and authenticity of PDP was validated accordingly.
