According to the number of syllables, onomatopoeia words can be divided into single syllable, double syllables, three syllables, and four syllables. On the basis of relative contents, onomatopoeia words also can be divided into small categories about people, animals, nature, and objects. Among Cantonese onomatopoeias, the "AA" form is used frequently and specifically. By examining the cases of "AA" plus " 聲 " (sound) in Cantonese, we can investigate the characteristics of this type of phrases from the internal structure and grammatical functions.
