Human factors in human handwriting and penpoint design have received little attention until recently. This paper reports two studies on the design of penpoints and its effectiveness in handwriting skills. Straight points, curvedpoints, and tilled points were compared in the writing efficiency of two groupsof 12 subjects each, performing letter formation tasks. Results show the superiority of tilled points, over straight points, and the straight points over curvedpoints. The findings are discussed relative to theoretical as well as practical implications.
