Due to the space shortage and rising cost, many libraries face several problems in handling periodicals. Library has to decide which periodical titles could be cancelled, which holdings could be reshelved to other storage, which holdings could be converted to microforms, etc. This article introduces several methods of periodical usage survey, e. g., study of circulation and photocopy reauests, questionnaires circulated to clients, tallies of volumes reshelved, citation analysis, etc. Advantages and disadvantages of these methods are discussed.
