決策輔助系統(DSS)為電腦在管理方面應用的一個新領域，其設計原理等尚有許多值得探討之餘地。本文提出「配合人本資訊處理系統(Human Information Processing Systems, HIPS)之特性，以設計決策輔助系統」之概念，文中首先介紹HIPS的單元、功能及其運作上的極限，其次探討電腦在各種決策問題中所扮演之角色及如何用以在決策過程中輔助HIPS之功能。
The development of decision-support systems (DSS) represents a new area of computer application to management information processing. This paper proposes a rationale for the design of DSS, in which the needs for decision support are derived from the nature of human information systems (HIPS). The key theme is focused on how to integrate the power of computer technology with the strengths of HIPS. The discussion starts from the components, functions, and limitations of the human information processing systems. Then, the roles which a computer can play in various decision environments are examined. Finally, the guidelines for designing the DSS with capacity to enhance HIPS effectively are suggested.
