The Chinese MARC Format has been widely accepted and used by libraries at all levels in Taiwan area since its adoption as the bibliographic database format by the National Central Library (NCL) in Taipei in 1981. For the past seven years, NCL has initiatively taken the responsibility of the national bibliographic utilities with the available MARC in order to set up a network. It will promote the functions of the Chinese MARC database with a hope to render better and substantial services to people at home and abroad especially to those libraries in their initiative Chinese bibliographic service. This paper mainly reports the increase of fields and records in the national bibliographic database and the services in the national bibliographic utility. It further discusses the structure and the prospect for the bibliographic information network development.
