一個現代化醫院是相當龐大且勞力密集及資訊導向的組織。每天醫院運作需靠有效資訊通信於很多不同作業單元。醫院資訊系統對任何現代化醫院可以說是非常重要的，因其為困難且複雜的程序。因此吾人探討他人在此方面的經驗亦甚重要，很多甚具價值的概念可從其描述獲得了解。本文針對一些醫院資訊系統電腦化相關研究加以探討，包括醫院資訊系統明確定義，演進技術，資訊技術約主要發展，硬體技術的架構，成本與利益考量。至於目前台灣在醫院資訊系統之發展亦有討論之，希望能發現其對於新現代化醫院電腦化的發展有所助益。
A modern hospital is a relatively large, labour intensive, information oriented organization. Its daily operation depends upon the effective communication of information between different operational units. The integrated hospital information system （HIS） is essential for any modern hospitals, since it is a difficult and complex proess. A study on other experiences of HIS computerization is quite important, as valuable concepts can be used to describe and understand many processes in many disciples. This paper introduces some related work on HIS computerization, including definition, history of HIS technology, key developments in information technology, architectures of hardware technology, costs and benefits considerations. The current development of HIS technology in Taiwan is also discussed in order to find out if it offers any help in the HIS computerization for a new modern hospital.
