　　　　　本文主要在介紹國際標準通用標誌語言(Standard Generalized Markup Language,ISO-8879)標準之源起、架構、應用及其他文獻處理相關標準，並說明圖 書館界了解此標準之意義。
　　　　　The main objectives of this article is to introduce the background, architecture andapplication of SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language). Other related documentprocessing standards are also discussed. We explain why the standards of SGML is a must forworking librarians.
