In the Middle Ages thelibrarian -was primarily a custodianor preserver of
collections. Over theyears, however, the role of librarianchanged dramatically from
preserverof collections to provider of services.Today, some librarians see themselves
as "cybrarians", working on "the network" rather than in collections of materials, or
engaged indeveloping new information tools andservices or even in producing
newpublication forms.
