Multimedia is said to bethe latest technology on the "bleedingedge", Over
the past few years,multimedia has matured dramatically, and is on its way to being
integrated into our daily business, education and social activities. Multimedia and
imaging are closely related technologies, which are nowused in entertainment,
education, andinformation. The paper describessome of the international
projects,which combine imaging and multimedia for the preservation of cultural
heritage, works of art,manuscripts, and museum objects andartifacts. Some of the
issues facingthe information profession include;standards, intellectual
property,networking, international concerns,legal issues, among others. The paper
concludes with a discussion ofthe role of the information industryand the impact of
multimedia technology on libraries and informationcenters.
