胡述兆教授憑著他不斷追求高深學問之決心與愈挫愈勇的毅力，成為中
國學位最多紀錄的保持人。他讀過十個大學，獲得七項學位，跨越化學、法律、
政治圖書館學四種學科領域。1983年胡教授接受台灣大學之邀請，出任圖書館學
系主任暨研究所所長，迄今已十二年餘，其間，他參加了許多台灣圖書館與資訊
界之建設工作，貢獻甚鉅。其成就大體可分為三方面:對於圖書館與資訊教育之
貢獻，在學術著作方面之成就，與推動海峽兩岸圍書館與資訊學術交流。

This is a biographical ac-count of Dr. James S. C. Hu. Forcontinuously
pursuing advanced learn-ing with strong perseverance, D:r. Hubecomes the man who
possesses mostacademic degrees in China. He studiedat ten Universities, received
elevendegrees in four fields covering Chem-istry, Law, Politics, and Library Sci-ence.
In 1983, Dr. Hu accepted theinvitation from the National Taiwan University to
become the Chairmanand Director of the Department andGraduate Institute of Library
Science.In the past twelve years, he has madea great deal of contribution to
Libraryand Information science in Taiwan.His major professional achievementsare in
three areas: library and information science education;academicpublishing; and the
promotion ofacademic exchange and cooperation oflibrary and information studies
between both sides of the TaiwanStraits.
