Since 1980s, family nursing has become a new domain in nursing discipline. The knowledge of family nursing comes from family theories, family therapy theories, and nusing theories. Family theories serve as the knowledge base of interpreting family phenomena. Family therapy theories serve as the knowledge base for family nursing interventions. Nursing theories and paradigms represent the nature of nursing. The major principles and the clinical implications of the family systems theory, family stress theories, and symbolic interactionism are illustrated. The goals of family assessment and family interventions are discussed.
