In order to improve the quality of nursing care and provide nursing care with continuity to patients, nurses make nursing care plans. But some nursing care plans were not completed due to the time consuming process of making a care plan, a shortage of nurses, and different educational and experience backgrounds of nurses. The purpose of this project was to develop a nursing care standard and to implement computerized nursing care plans in October of 1993. Results of the evaluation were: (1) nurses were satisfied with computerized nursing care plans, especially because of time savings and the clarity of completed plans; (2) average cost of nursing time spent on care plan preparation was reduced by 17.7 minutes per patient; (3) the rate of compliance to nursing care plan formulation guidelines was increased. The application of this computerized care plan and findings of this project will improve the quality of nursing care.
