鐵人三項運動是一種綜合游泳、自行車及跑步的耐力運動,其迷人之處在於它屬於一種體能極致發揮的藝術。選手致勝的關鍵在於如何維持長時間高效率的能量傳輸。適當的訓練可使選手在攝氧能力、動作的經濟性及最大攝氧量的利用效率獲得生理的適應。更進一步的說,所謂生理的適應包含了中樞四心血管系統及週邊的能量代謝系統,前者反應於最大攝氧量的增加,後者反應於動靜脈血氧濃度差的增加。 高的最大攝氧量是優秀選手必備條係的第一要素,其次動作的經濟性也是致勝的重要因素。三項當中,游泳受到動作經濟性的影響最大,因此對於非游泳專長的選手應當設法優先加強游泳技巧。此外,三項的順序依次為游泳、自行車及跑步,除了第一項游泳之外,其餘兩皆受到前一項的影響,體能調配的重要性亦不容忽視。 最大攝氧量(%VO2 max)的利用效率被用來表示選手所承受的相對運動強度。研究顯示鐵人三項選手的%VO2 max與運動表現密切相關,而影響%VO2 max最重要的因素則是乳酸閾值,由於三項性質互異,乳酸值各有不同,因此%VO2 max或乳酸閾在三項所測得的數據須分開比較。 除了加強心肺功能及單項技術之外,選手應該注意平日與比賽當日的能量及電解質平衡問題,尤其比賽的環境決定體液及電解質補充量的多寡。惟有充分結合體能、技術及知識,才能在鐵人三榑競賽中脫穎而出。
