　　　　　本文主要檢討近十年(1985-1995)在漢代中國和羅馬帝國關係的研究上，有無新 的發現和進展。針對不少學者急於論證漢代中國和羅馬帝國之間曾有直接且密切的關係，本文 特以 (1)、145 位羅馬俘虜在驪靬建城，(2)、西元 100 年，羅馬商團抵達中國洛陽兩說為 例，指出兩說基於浪漫連想者多於堅實論據。進而從考古遺物著眼，對照在印度和中國出土 的羅馬錢幣和玻璃器，論證如果漢代中國和羅馬之間曾有密切直接的往來，在中國也應像在 印度一樣可以發現大量的羅馬錢幣或其它遺物。事實上，在中國境內，迄今不見任何一枚屬 於漢亡以前 (西元 220 年 ) 的羅馬錢幣。極少數幾件出土的羅馬玻璃器，是否為真品或其 它民族的仿製品，如何進入中國，由誰如何傳入，都極不明確。因此本文認為漢代中國和羅 馬之間，依目前的證據看，只能說曾有間接且間斷的關係。
　　　　　This paper is a review of the works published from 1985 to 1995 on the relationship between Han China and Rome. It points out that the two popular theories [(1)Li-kan 驪靬was a city of Han established by 145 Roman soldiers and (2)Roman merchants arrived in Lo-yang, 洛陽the capital of later Han, as early as 100 A.D.] are largely based on romantic imagination without concrete evidence. In contrast to the Roman coins and glass found extensively in India, there were few glass objects and no coins of Rome discovered from Han China. This seems to indicate that the relation between Han China and Rome was rather indirect and sporadic in character.
