　　　　　本文的主要目的是考察大學科學（物理）教科書（textbooks)的編輯和內容結構，以便探詢教科書中是否蘊涵了某種科學發展模式﹖這種蘊涵在教科書中的科學發展模式最接近哪一個科學哲學家所提出的科學歷史發展模式﹖我們的結論是教科書蘊涵了一幅接近庫恩 (Kuhn) 所描繪的「常態科學式」圖像：科學活動的發展是一種歸納知識的累積，今天我們已經累積了許多可靠、權威性的科學知識，日後科學的一切活動即是不斷地在既成的寶塔上進展。而科學家之所以能達到這個目標，是由於他們對現象進行中立、客觀的觀察，一方面從觀察中歸納出現象背後的原理；另方面從測量性觀察中我們也能檢驗應用權威理論而設計的實驗問題。並將所得數據和理論計算數值做比較，以便找出變因，排除誤差，達到更精確的地步。後繼的理論並不是用來拒絕先行理論，只是改善了先行理論的精確程度和應用廣度，後繼理論的出現限制了先行理論的適用範圍，但兩者都是整個科學知識大廈的基石，在它們的基礎上，科學能夠進一步地發展。
