『妙玉』是紅樓夢中最特殊的人物之一；性格孤僻、愛潔極致的習氣，為金陵十二釵揮下彩筆，一個發人深省的女子。本論文嚐試從精神醫學及其成因去探究妙玉小時成長過程中因體弱多病而出家、進大觀園、在大觀園裡成為守著性幻想的變形菩提至落入悲劇命運的格局；我們發現妙玉是強迫型性格異常之患者。紅樓夢作者最難能可貴的是準確的描述出一、三百年以後，今日精神醫學臨床實驗已能獲得證實之強迫型性格異常之種種特色，亦讓讀者有如親睹聞見古代社會中性格特殊女子之遭遇的圖像。

　　"Miao Yu" was one of the most characteristic ladies of the Dream of the Red Chamber. She was unsociable, autistic, and mysophobic in personality, and had a eventful and pitiful outcome. Among" the twelve Jin-Ling ladies", her personality traits made herself the most impressive lady for readers. In this article, we analyzed her special personality traits via modern psychiatry concepts, and tried to explain the etiology of her mental derangement. We found that she had the characters of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, and it could be attributed to her constantly ill childhood and unsteady family. The authors made very precise and vivid description of the characteristic behavior of the victims of this mental illness in the Chinese society hundreds years ago. Most of them could be found in modern psychiatric clinic and that is one of the most valuable contributions he gave us.
