本文旨在探討台南西區運河周圍地區生態社區空間營造之可行性，與以往社區營 造計畫有關研究不同的是本文採用「空間」的觀點為切入點，包含人造的實質空間（如街屋、 中軸、端點、循環、圍繞感等）以及自然的生態景觀空間。亦即從「空間和景觀的美化」為 切入點，再結合運河水資源的歷史特色與發展方向，整合成一個總體的營造計畫。 本文採取官方資料蒐集、問卷調查、深入訪談、田野調查土地使用情形、單變項與雙變 項統計、內容分析等研究工具，依研究地區四里人口數，按一定比例抽取成年人514份，青 少年392份有效樣本，及深入訪談16份樣本進行實證研究。結果發現： （一）在社區實質空間結構之分析上，可以軸線設計、層級系統、轉換元素、主導特徵、 圍繞感等五項工具進行分析，有些表現良好，有些則需加強。

　　　　　The purpose of this paper is to investigate the ecological community spatial construction of West District canal surrounding area in Tainan city. In the meantime, we take the viewpoints of physical space and landscape space. Some research methods are taken including government report collcting, questionnaire, in- depth interview, land-use survey, statistic analysis and content analysis. Questionnaire and interview are administered to 922 inhabitants. The main findings are as follows: (1) We can analyze community physical spatial structure from tools---axial design, hierarchical system, transitional elements, dominance, and closure. (2) There are some different outcomes between adults' and youths' attitudes in community spatial order cognition survey. (3) In canal and surrounding areas' spatial construction, we suggest recreational-cultural facilities in mix-use development and street landscape design and control must be emphasized in urban planning in future. (4) We also can put forward an "ecological community spatial construction of West District canal surrounding area" model that includes : community spatial order and water resource, actors relationship in community construction, and industrialized local culture in this study.
