Jiejing, the Collection of Words,is aprimer compiled by underclass in the northern areas of Guangxi in the reign of Emperor Qianlong(1711-1799 A.D).Two versions have been found, the hand-written one and the xylographic one. After examining their contents and stylistic features, this paper holds that the xylographic version with the sign of " Qianlong 54 th Year" is a subsequent copy or modified version, and the original version on which the handwritten version was based in the reign of Emperor Guangxu(1871-1908 A.D.)is earlier than the xylograpic one.Carrying rich cultural information including daily life, religious belief and commercial trade of the underclass in northern areas of Guangxi from Qing Dynasty to the period of the Republic of China, such books are of significant referential value to the research of local language and culture.
