The purpose of this study is to explore the origination and development of media economics from the perspective of disciplinary institutional infrastructure. By investigating CITESPACEⅢ,this study applies cocitation analysis to identify the main research lines within this scientific field. Results of the analysis reveal that media economics originated from the 1970 s. The development of media economics experienced three stages: First,it experienced an initial stage from the 1970 s to 1980 s. Second,media economics entered high-speed development in the late 1990 s. In the third stage since 2000,media economics experienced a concussion. There are four factors that influence the origination and evolution of media economics: professional researchers,normative discipline training system,authoritative publications and funding.
