Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology conducted an excavation at the Yanjiazhai village in Weicheng district, Xianyang, from January to July in 2014. Sacrificial pits, burials, cemetery moats, and architectural foundations dating to the Warring-States and Qin periods were identified. The excavation area was located around 350 meters northeast of the Qin mausoleum at Sijiazhuang. The excavation provides new and critical information to address a serious questions including burial practices among high-status elites and the social hierarchy reflected by the Qin mausoleum system.
