An Xuanlang’s epitaphs, which has been found from Rongxian county, Guangxi, is the only inscription record about Sogdian in the most southern part of China. According to the textual records, An Xuanlang’s grandfather, An Jing, arrived in the Lingnan Region around 817 AD, accompanying the Jiedushi(military commissioner), Kong Kui, and settled down there to serve as a military official. The three generations, An Jing, An Guanyan, and An Xuanlang, were highly recognized and appointed to important positions by local officials in Lingnan. This piece of information provides new understanding for the movement of Sogdian and how they were assimilated to Han culture.
