本世紀初以來,伊格爾頓針對后現代主義文化摒棄信仰的思潮,從新的視角闡釋了他的文化理論。他堅持馬克思主義文化批判的立場,探究當代世界矛盾的歷史根源,批判西方自由理性思想的本質。他指出以自由理性為核心的、喪失信仰的非理性行為是對他國信仰和文化的踐踏,也導致了極端宗教信仰和西方社會之間的沖突與對抗。他呼吁樹立理性的信仰觀以解決當今社會問題與矛盾。

Since the beginning of 21st century, Eagleton has developed his cultural theory from a new perspective to attack the anti-faith inclination of postmodernism. As a Marxist cultural critic, he explores the historical causes of present global contradiction, criticizes the nature of Western ideas of freedom and reason. He points out that irrational acts based on freedom and reason, but without faith, destroy faith and culture of other nations, leading to conflicts and confrontations between religious extremists and Western society. He strongly suggests that the right way to solve current social problems is to establish faith with reason.
